2010 General Election, like millions of others I voted Lib Dem thinking they were the most progressive choice of the three major parties at Westminster & oh how I felt fucking betrayed with so many others who’d voted Lib Dem in the aftermath of that election as the Lib Dems jumped into bed with the Tories just for the kudus of being in government & for Nick Clegg yo forever after brag he was deputy PM. Propping up the Tories in government & reeking austerity on the most vulnerable in society & the Lib Dems Lib Dems didn’t even get proportional representation in the trade off of having peeps with disabilities murdered by austerity, yeah very fucking progressive NOT!
It makes me physically sick thinking that I actually voted for the party that propped up a Tory regime which was quite prepared to murder peeps with disabilities to give billionaires tax cuts! I swore I’d never ever vote Lib Dem ever again & nor have I, for they literally have proven themselves the party which literally does say one thing & does another, but it’s not as if I’ve always had the animosity which I have nowadays towards the Lib Dems, I remember a few weeks after the 2010 General Election having very moist eyes indeed upon hearing the death of Charles Kennedy. When Charles Kennedy was leader of the Lib Dems back in the first half of the noughties & were calling out the Blairite Labour government for waging illegal wars & for being Thatcherite sell outs, they were a party I did want to vote for because they did seem to have some anti-establishment lefty backbone to them at the national level.
As a trans woman & lesbian I’m well aware the Lib Dems have long been champions of LGBTQ equality at the national & parliamentary level, but if there’s one thing anyone would know about the Lib Dems other then they support proportional representation it’s that they very pro localism, well I was once told by a LOCAL Lib Dem who at the time was the counsellor for the ward I lived in that she had nothing against LGBTQ peeps just so long as they don’t live next door to her & I know I’m not the only trans woman I know who’s experienced homophobia or homophobia from representatives of a LOCAL Lib Dem party, liberal & progressivism localism err fucking NOT!
What do the Lib Dems stand for? I kind of think it’s a pretty crucial question to answer before you’d expect anybody thinks of voting Lib Dem, but don’t expect any local Lib Dem to actually answer concisely or coherently, you’d likely be on the receiving end of them spouting meaningless waffle which adds up to they wear a yellow rosette not red or blue.
At least with the Tories you know they’re cunts & Labour are daydreaming idealists, but with the Lib Dems well the tumbleweeds rolls as to having a clue as to what they quantify & considering they’ve a recent history of saying one thing & then doing another, vote Lib Dem at your peril, in fact don’t fucking vote Lib Dem!
