The Liberal Democrats today officially launched their GE2017 manifesto & so interested & concerned was I about the Lib Dem’s launching their manifesto I was in the pub sinking a few jars of cider rather then watching any live coverage there night of been of the Lib Dems manifesto launch, in fact I was in the pub sinking jars of cider with some Labour activist friends of mine, you know Labour activists who are campaigning upon Labour’s manifesto for government not like the Lib Dems manifesto which by its own words from what I hear isn’t a manifesto for govern but for opposition.
I have to ask myself why the fuck am I actually taking the time out to write about the Lib Dem GE2017 manifesto, I mean even if it wasn’t by its own admission a manifesto for opposition, it would still be a pretty inconsequential document as the Lib Dems are now a pretty inconsequential party, only useful for helping Tories out tight squeezes.
I guess some would say that the Lib Dems are honest enough to admit they won’t be in government after June 8th, yeah well if the Lib Dems wanted to be totally honest with their manifesto then it should have been entitled ‘We’ll say one thing here but later do another’ instead of ‘Change Britain’s Future’, because as I say & as we all know from experience that the Lib Dems are only of any consequence when it comes to propping up the Tories to wreak misery upon the most vulnerable peeps.
The proposals of the Lib Dems GE2017 manifesto are obviously aimed to attracted disgruntled lefties opposed to Brexit, however bollocks will there be a second referendum on Brexit, yes I understand & even sympathise with the argument that there should be a second referendum once we know the details of any deal withdrawing from the EU, however personally one referendum was enough, last year’s referendum on EU membership brought out the best in the British peeps didn’t it NOT!
The mentality of some on the left regards Brexit is starting to remind of those soldiers who continue to fight the war not realising the war is over. Peeps voted for Brexit & Brexit is going to happen, I don’t like it as much as any other person who voted Remain, but the best way forward now is to plan for the future post Brexit which is exactly what the Labour Party GE2017 sets out.
Though I agree with the Lib Dems about decriminalising marijuana, I don’t in fact agree with raising all rates of income tax by 1%, I know some might be puzzled as it seems somewhat against the grain for a tax & spend lefty like myself to be opposing a tax rise? Hey I’m all for the tax rates on the wealthiest earners rising, those with the broadest shoulders bearing the greatest weight & all that, but I oppose the tax rates of the lowest incomes going up & if you noticed the Lib Dems say they want to add 1% to ALL rates of income tax.
Somehow I’ve managed to write 500 plus words on a document which I reckon isn’t worth the paper it’s written on, funny how blog posts evolve in the writing & editing process, well regardless of my writing techniques, fact remains if you believe a word of what the Lib Dems are proposing you are a fool who easily forgets the 2010 general election & it’s aftermath.
