With there only being two days to go until polling day in the 2017 General Election, I’m sure in the short amount of time left the Lib Dems will be making double the effort to spam my letterbox with copies of their crappy FOCUS leaflets telling me the Liberal Democrats are the party which stands for…uh?…err?…erm?…tumbleweed…hmm…please vote Liberal Democrat.
Some peeps say I shouldn’t spend so much time taking the piss out of the Liberal Democrats & in fact think about supporting them considering I support the protection of civil liberties & electoral reform. I don’t doubt there are some principled liberals of a progressive persuasion in the Liberal Democrats, in fact I know a few of them & count the likes of Sarah Brown as a good friend, but unfortunately my experience of the local Lib Dems is that of a bunch of middle class snobs who are essentially a bunch of closeted Tories & who with it are a tad homophobic & racist.
Last night there was a special edition of the BBC’s Question Time program which featured the leader of the Liberal Democrats, I bet Timmy was beside himself with delight that he was actually getting some attention from the mainstream news media, because on the whole this general election campaign the most media attention he’s had has been in the likes of the Penzance Tribune mentioning he was seen in a café there & when he has made any appearance in the mainstream media he’s been failing to answer does he think gay sex is a sin, even Theresa May when asked the same question gave an immediate & categorical no.
It wasn’t as if I disagreed with everything Timmy had to say last night on the BBC’s Question Time which was been staged in Scotland & yet again the BBC were showing their bias because despite UKIP being an endangered species in Scotland the BBC amazingly managed to pack the audience with every single UKIP supporter north of the border.
It’s a given that I’m going to agree with Tim Farron on stuff to do with civil liberties & electoral reform, Farron made a very good point in telling the audience & whoever was watching on television there was no need for Theresa May to be introducing further anti-terrorist laws as there was ample laws to combat terrorism already on the statue books just that the current Tory government haven’t been using them effectively, the answer is more manpower for the police not more laws taking away our liberty, Timmy won’t hear any argument from me about all that but he will on the Lib Dems tax policy & on wanting a second EU referendum.
The Lib Dems current policy on Income Tax is a 1% increase on all rates of tax including the lowest rate, hey I’m all for the rate of Income Tax to be increased for the wealthiest but not the lowest paid, taxing the lowest paid is not at all progressive in my humble opinion.
My position on Brexit is I think its dumb & when I say Brexit is dumb I actually mean it’s really fucking dumb, as in really fucking disastrously dumb, but there was this big referendum last year which unfortunately stupidity & racism won with the majority vote for Brexit, yeah democracy can seriously be a bitch sometimes but if we slap the democratic voice of the people in the face then we are no better than fascist governments who do likewise & which we criticize for doing so, the Lib Dem policy on Brexit seems to be keep holding referendum on EU membership until they get the result they want. I’m not a fan of referendum as it goes & I think last year’s referendum was unpleasant enough with all the racism, xenophobia, bigotry, hate & the murder of MP Jo Cox, yeah once was enough for me & I doubt I’m the only one who thinks so.
If there’s one election prediction I’m prepared to express publicly it’s that the great Lib Dem fightback ain’t happening at the 2017 General Election, in fact if I’m to believe some of the polling I’ve seen then the Lib Dems might lose parliamentary seats & will definitely be able to hold their next annual conference in a toilet cubicle.
